In this Talered book a young girl goes back in time to meet her great grandparents and learns how they instilled values and confidence in their children
Sitting at the dinner table with her parents, Shanvi looked
lost in thought. “What happened?” Mumma asked.
“I have a problem, Mumma.”
“Can I help you dear?” Mumma asked.
Mumma and Daddy were both listening to Shanvi.
“You see, it’s my turn on TARDIS tomorrow and I am wondering whom I should meet.”
This is the beginning of our first book (that was commissioned and paid for), “Shanvi’s Adventure with TARDIS”.
The book was gifted by Sheikha Kalyan, who then lived in Singapore. She wanted a book that would tell her niece, Shanvi, about Badepapa and Badimummy, i.e. her dad’s grandparents who were no more.
In the story, after debating whom to go back in time to meet–Gandhiji or the Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi–Shanvi decides to meet her grandparents, after Sheikha makes the suggestion over a family Zoom call.
During her time with Badepapa and Badimummy back in 1999, Shanvi notices how they encouraged their grandchildren to have a voice of their own by listening to them.
She also witnessed Badimummy thank Badepapa for Guru Purnima. And so Badimummy told her the story:
“Badepapa taught me how to read and write.”
“Why? Didn’t your teacher at school teach you?”
“No, my girl. You see when I was a child, not many families
sent their daughters to school. They thought that teaching a girl how to read and write would spoil her. But, Badepapa had worked hard to get an education. And he felt that all women should know how to read and write. And so, after I got married to him, Badepapa taught me. Which is why, every Gurupurnima I thank him.”
All the incidents that Shanvi witnessed back in time were true and reflected the values that the grandparents had left Sheikha and her siblings and cousins with. She wanted to keep these stories intact and share this love with the next generation.
About the Talered book, Sheikha shared, “Thank you is such a small word but I hope I can convey how deeply I am moved after reading the story. Gitanjali you made the process so simple that it is unbelievable that the end product is so perfect! This has to be the best gift for my niece. The perfect way to introduce her to her great grandparents. My Badepapa holds such a beautiful place in the hearts of all his grandkids. Each one of us shed a tear of joy after reading this book.”
Shanvi’s story was the beginning of our journey and we are so grateful that we could deliver something that had such an impact!
